In this lesson I cover a whole bunch of scales you can use over a 12 bar blues progression. Surprisingly, you don’t only have to use the blues scale. There are a heap of different scales and modes, some which are pretty simple and sound quite safe and vanilla and others which are a bit more advanced and sound rather complex and jazzy and dissonant. All these scales are obviously transposable to every other key.

C minor pentatonic (AKA Eb Maj Pentatonic):
C, Eb, F, G, Bb, C

C blues:
C, Eb, F, Gb, G, Bb, C

F blues:
F, Ab, Bb, B, C, Eb, F

G blues:
G, Bb, C, Db, D, F, G

C Mixolydian (AKA F Major):
C, D, E, F, G, A, Bb, C

C Major pentatonic (AKA A min Pentatonic):
C, D, E, G, A, C

C7 Arpeggio:
C, E, G, Bb, C

C Lydian Dominant (AKA G Maj but with Bb (flat 3rd)):
C, D, E, F#, G, A, Bb, C

C Dorian (AKA Bb Major):

C Wholetone:
