Poltava Museum of Aviation and Cosmonautics is a unique museum of aviation and rocket and space themes.
The creation of the museum institution began in 1987-1988 on the initiative of the creator of rocket engines, twice Hero of Socialist Labor, Academician V. P. Glushko. The painstaking search work to collect exhibits continued until 2001, when the museum was officially opened. Through specialists from the scientific and production association of the rocket and space profile “Machine Building”, Design Bureau and NPO “Yuzhnoye”, the Cosmonaut Training Center named after. Y. Gagarin managed to form a unique museum collection - almost 4 thousand exhibits and a scientific archive of more than 10 thousand storage units, a library, a library, videos, disks and other materials were collected.
The museum is located in the former building of the Poltava fire brigade, built in 1811. It contains unique materials dedicated to the most outstanding events in aerospace science and technology in Ukraine and the world, as well as the life path and creative heritage of prominent figures in the fields of aviation and astronautics. A significant place in the exhibition is given to natives of the Poltava region and people whose activities are connected with this region, and the scientific heritage of Yu. Kondratyuk is highlighted. The contribution of people from the Poltava region to the victory during the Second World War is reflected, in particular, Operation Frentik is described. Ukraine's participation in international space projects is covered. Among the exhibits of the main fund there are items of significant historical value.
Exhibition sections are contained in six halls. They are dedicated to the contribution of scientists, designers, and specialists associated with the Poltava region. The materials introduce the years of study, work, genealogical and other connections of scientists, their contribution to the development of aerospace science and technology in the 18th century. to the present: Zasyadko O. D., Kovanko O. M., Kotelnikova G. E., Kondratyuka Yu. V. (Shargeya O. G.), Pobedonostseva Yu. A., Kisenko M. S., Chelomeya V. M. .and many others.
