On a run of eight games without a win, strife was mounting at Bootham Crescent and the visit of struggling Northampton Town was another opportunity to break the bad run of form.
Northampton had failed to bounce back from the heartache of play-off defeat in Division 2 the previous season and manager Alan Little clearly decided to have a go at then, selected three strikers in his starting line up, Neil Woods joining regulars Neil Tolson and Richard Cresswell and with Rodney Rowe ready from the bench.
But the plan to score more goals than City conceded didn’t quite materialise, especially when Andy McMillan scythed down Dave Savage to gift the Cobblers a penalty. Town leading goalscorer Carlo Corazzin made no mistake from the spot.
York rallied and scored an equaliser when Northampton keeper Billy Turley could only block Neil Tolson’s header, Richard Cresswell following up to score and rescue a point that City really needed to be three.
Apologies for the glitchiness of this clip.
