n this video I demonstrate how to make a very simple and accurate Tapering Jig. All that is required is some scrap 1/2” or 3/4” plywood, a sacrificial piece of wood for the fence piece and a few brad nails or finishing nails. This jig does not rely on complicated hold-downs, slides or adjustments and it has no moving parts. It does exactly what you need it to do.
This is by no means a new idea, this method of cutting tapered parts has been used by cabinet makers and furniture makers for generations. It is perhaps one of those simple tricks that has been forgotten. You can use this jig on pieces up to 1 1/2 inches thick, however it is not recommended for any wood that is thicker than 1 1/2 inches.
