The internet, mobile phones and other digital technologies offer unprecedented opportunities to fulfill some of the rights of children enshrined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child. More and more children -- especially those living in the developing world -- are increasingly able to access information, to share their views and to interact with likeminded people -- through the internet. However, access to the internet and mobile has also made children more vulnerable to abuse and exploitation, and has the potential to put children's rights to safety and privacy at risk.
UNICEF believes that through education, awareness-raising and empowerment of children, young people and their caregivers, we can minimise the risk presented by the online world, and maximise the positive impact on children's rights, education and development.
