Endangered Baudin’s Black-Cockatoos (Calyptorhynchus baudinii) are endemic to south-western Australia, with the eastern limit of their published range near Esperance. This flock of more than 50 Baudin’s Black-Cockatoos was flying, calling and feeding along the verge of the Coolinup Nature Reserve on Fisheries Road, 48 kilometres east of Esperance. The cockatoos were removing and eating the seeds of a prickly Hakea shrub, and nibbling the unopened buds on a Western Australian Christmas Tree (Nuytsia floribunda), the world’s largest mistletoe.
