Game starts in 11:04. I remember playing Shadow Man a ton on the N64 way back when it came out. The game came out in 1999 so that's over 20 years ago. It was weird and different. It's like a horror game mix with platforming. The progression in the game is similar to something like Super Mario 64 except that it is like what would happen if Mario 64 was dark and evil. Instead of collecting stars you collect dark souls. The game is also similar to the older Tomb Raider games in the platforming gameplay like avoiding hazards, harmful environments and booby traps. The game is based on the comic series of the same name by Valiant. The new remastered version of Shadow Man that came out not too long ago was done by Nightdive Studios. This game also had a comic story but there's also another protagonist who goes by the name Jack Boniface who wields voodoo Shadow powers like Michael Leroi. The Shadow Man game has you playing as Michael LeRoi voiced by Redd Pepper who is able to crossover to the land of the dead called Deadside and the land of the living. It's kinda similar to the powers Raziel from Soul Reaver has being able to shift between the Spectral Realm (the world inhabited by spirits and the dead) and the Material Realm (the world we living people inhabit). In Deadside Michael LeRoi transforms into the immortal voodoo warrior Shadow Man the undead Walker-between-the-Worlds. It kinda gives me a bit of Spawn vibes by Todd McFarlane and a little bit of Constantine in there with the whole supernatural and world of the afterlife. I might do the games on those two later in the future. Shadow Man wields a weapon called the Shadow Gun that focuses the power of Death itself from the Mask and unleashes spectacular destruction in the form of shrieking wraiths, ripping through its victims to leave their souls behind. My favorite weapon is the Violator which is kinda like a portable minigun. You also wield normal weapons like a handgun, automatic weapon, shotgun, etc. The Violator is pretty powerful against bosses and those giant true form enemies. The voodoo priestess Mama Nettie has knitted and implanted the Mask of Shadows into Michael's ribs that's why he's able to wield this power and doing so made him kind of like a slave to Nettie. There's also a talking Irish skull headed snake named Jaunty who is Mike's guide. He gives him advice and hints while in Deadside. As you get further into the game you gain new weapons, abilities and powers like becoming immune to fire and also upgrading the Shadow Gun by grabbing more Dark Souls (not the popular game lol) which increases your Shadow Powers. The main villains are these serial killers who have become immortal because they were implanted with dark souls. One of them is Jack the Ripper based on the real life serial killer who did the gruesome killings in the Whitechapel district of London in 1888. He was recruited by Legion (he's the Legion mentioned in the Bible which are these group of demons that possessed one man) to create an immortal army called True Forms using the power of the Dark Souls implanted into them to take over the world and bring about Armageddon or the end of all things. It's Shadow Man's job to stop them from doing so. The story and lore is pretty interesting. It's pretty much like a dark anti-hero type of style with some horror stuff implanted into it. The game is kinda outdated now in the graphics style but if you can look pass that and understand the story then you might appreciate it. The game was originally released for the Playstation 1, Sega Dreamcast, Nintendo 64 and PC. I'd say the best versions are the Dreamcast and PC versions. The N64 version which was the one I remembered was okay and the worst version was the Playstation port. The music in the game were composed by Tim Haywood.
