The new prime minister of France will have a "huge challenge" ahead of him as he faces a "fragmented parliament and country", a former French diplomat has told Sky News.
President Emmanual Macron has named former Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier as France's prime minister.
Former French diplomat and political adviser to the French ambassador in the UK, Francois-Joseph Schichan, told Sky News he didn't think he was President Macron's "first pick" but he has "a lot of experience" and is a "safe pair of hands".
