Following the collapse of the Berlin Wall, freedom of religion has flourished in Eastern Europe and nowhere more so than in Poland. Many young Poles are searching for their roots and finding them firmly embedded in the Jewish community. With this new resurgence of Judaism there have been problems. Despite being the focus of the world's conscience after Auschwitz, some parts of the country still harbour anti-Semitic views. Rabbi Michael Schudrich has been entrusted with imparting his knowledge to this fledgling Jewish community, as well as educating society as a whole in the ongoing fight against anti-Semitism. In Warsaw's new Jewish primary school these worries are certainly not apparent as 92 little 'ambassadors' recite Hebrew songs with youthful vigour. Sombre stone memorials dominate the landscape, but there's a spirit of renewal emanating from this tragic past.
