Shadow Health Minister Chris Bowen has called on the Morrison Government to urgently "take control" and ensure the ongoing management of the Ruby Princess cruise ship debacle is not “kicked into the long grass".
NSW Health authorities confirmed an additional two deaths in the state - that of a man and a woman both in their 70’s - linked to the Ruby Princess cruise ship, bringing the total cruise ship death toll to 18.
The 74-year-old woman and 79-year old man were being treated for coronavirus at the John Hunter Hospital and the Northern Beaches Hospital when they died.
Mr Bowan said the Ruby Princess still "provides an ongoing risk to Australia's health system" and the government must act now to resolve the issue.
"It's very important that this ship, which has caused so much damage already, not be kicked into the long grass," he said.
"Everybody who is on the Ruby Princess, who is left on the Ruby Princess, should be tested as a matter of urgency.
"We need the government, the federal government to take control of this situation and take control urgently ... it needs to be fixed and fixed now."
