Over the past few weeks, I’ve been expanding my Helix / HX Stomp library to include a couple presets for my electric violin. Along with all of my guitar settings, these presets will be available for download in my Complete Helix Pack - more information below.

The electric violin has many roles, but sometimes you’re in a position where you need to fill the role of a cellist. Through the use of impulse responses and some clever EQ & compression settings, getting a general sonic image of a cello is possible with the Line 6 Helix series. Although I’m using the HX Stomp, this will work across the entire Helix family. In this video, I’ll be sharing with you two presets that I’ve created to make my electric violin sound fill the role of a cello. By no means is it perfect (expecting a totally realistic cello sound is absurd), but the name of the game here was to keep the preset entirely free for you while hopefully achieving the general tone/range of a cello. These presets are based around a couple public domain Impulse Responses that I came across, so if you’re going to use these presets, you’ll need to download the IRs separately. Luckily, they’re free. As I mentioned in the video, you’re more likely to get a much more realistic cello tone by purchasing actual cello presets and using something like the Electro Harmonix Pitchfork for the octave down effect instead of the Helix block. I know many people would prefer to try out a free version first before committing financially, so that’s where this video comes in.
