A SPOKESMAN FOR THE LEWIS-MCCHORD JOINT BASE IN WASHINGTON STATE SAYS SHE COULD NOT COMMENT ON REPORTS THAT THE SOLDIER ACCUSED OF KILLING 16 AFGHAN CIVILIANS CAME FROM THERE.
HOWEVER, A NUMBER OF CONTROVERSIAL INCIDENTS HAVE BEEN LINKED TO PERSONNEL FROM THE BASE IN THE LAST FEW YEARS.
THE MILITARY NEWSPAPER "STARS AND STRIPES" CALLED LEWIS-MCCORD "THE MOST TROUBLED BASE IN THE MILITARY" IN 2010.

"you gotta keep it in check. You gotta know, I can't think of anybody in the world who's going to say that going and killing 16, 18 civilians is OK anywhere in the world, much less when you're wearing that American flag and that U.S. Army tag, that's completely unacceptable.

25-HUNDRED SOLDIERS FROM LEWIS-MCCHORD WERE SENT TO AFGHANISTAN FOR A YEARLONG DEPLOYMENT IN DECEMBER.
HOWEVER, IT ISN'T CLEAR IF THE SOLDIER ALLEGEDLY INVOLVED IN THE AFGHAN KILLINGS WAS PART OF THAT DEPLOYMENT.
