*update: I've re-uploaded this video because the previous version wasn't the right dimensions for the #shorts format. T.
This #shorts video is to show you what this condition looks like, sort of a response to the "Whale Eyes" video from New York Time Opinion. I filmed this several days ago and wasn't sure if I wanted to post it or not. I'm posting it, but trolls will be blocked immediately.
This condition has a proper medical name - strabismus. Not 'lazy eye', thank you very much.
I hate that phrase. It is ableist, blames & shames patients, and is just plain inaccurate. It is 2021, we shouldn't be using antiquated, un-scientific names for medical conditions. We no longer use terms like dropsy, consumption, hysteria, or The French Disease any more, so 'lazy eye' should be no different.
This is not well known - so much so that spellchecking programs don't even recognize the word! Time to make it clear that this disease is common and has a medical name. And no, the name is NOT "lazy eye". That is not only scientifically inaccurate but is also an ableist slur.
