Will you ever feel better after divorce? Divorce hurts. It’s easy to get stuck in the pain, in the anger, the regret, the guilt, the shame, the frustration and grief. But you don’t have to stay there. How to stop pain of divorce is actually quite simple: stop fighting it. Allow it to be there.
When people ask me how to stop hurting after divorce they are often surprised when I say that you have to allow your emotions to be there. Maybe you think you can’t take the pain of divorce… but that’s not true. You can take it. You are taking it. Every day. Right now. Only it feels ten times worse than it needs to because you are resisting it. You are fighting it, trying to run from it, distracting and buffering and trying to escape it.
To deal with the pain divorce brings, you must let go of your resistance, accept the reality that the pain exists and start to build a base of self compassion and curiosity. Those are the emotions that will give you the strength to heal the emotional wounds of divorce and begin to feel better.
