It's time to pick up a katana and dust off your copy of Way of the Samurai, as the newest class for Final Fantasy XIV has been announced during the opening keynote at Fanfest 2017 in Frankfurt Germany earlier today.

What new stuff is there to look forward to in the upcoming expansion for Final Fantasy XIV? BenderWaffles is here to give you the lowdown on what to look forward to and gives his opinion on what is the most important take away from the Keynote speech.

In addition to the Red Mage, players will be able to take up arms as the Samurai, which will be a melee dps job who utilizes a katana as its main weapon. Each katana will have its own unique scabbard art, and the class will use the same category of equipment as monks.

Gameplay will revolve around far eastern swordplay techniques, including the art of Sen and its three forms, Setsu, Getsu, and Ka. Samurai will not have a base class and will start at level 50.

And based off of the action in the trailer which was released alongside the announcement, Samurai certainly look like they can kick some serious butt. And yes, I am aware that this is a pre-rendered trailer, but still, Final Fantasy XIV has one of the better feeling battle systems among the more traditional MMORPGs, so I’m sure that playing this new class will feel just as satisfying and fun as any of the others.
