What pacifier does your baby prefer?! When choosing a pacifier, it’s best to pick one that encourages ideal sucking patterns, especially if your baby is breastfeeding or your baby is having trouble feeding (bottle or breastfeeding).
Pacifiers that encourage an ideal sucking pattern are:
-round
-gradually sloped
-flexible material (ideal but not as common)
If possible, avoid orthodontic, flat or bulb shaped pacifiers.. especially if your baby is having feeding difficulties. If your baby is feeding well and prefers this type of pacifier, I wouldn’t stress too much about it! If your baby can only keep a bulb shaped pacifier in their mouth without it falling out AND is having feeding problems, it may be beneficial to look into why. Bulb shaped pacifiers anchor in the mouth which makes them easier to keep in. If your baby struggles to maintain a latch and suction on a round pacifier like the avent soothie, there may be underlying issues.
