Shannon McWhinney is an artist based in Ucluelet, along B.C.s most western shoreline. She has a deep connection to the west coast and takes endless inspiration from the wildlife and environment that she encounters every day – its energy, characters and stories.
Story is central to Shannon’s work; she captures moments that bring the land and its animal inhabitants to life. Shannon’s paintings are mainly acrylic on canvas, but she has also created artworks that combine acrylics, oils and other mediums. Her artworks are rich in harmonious colours and rhythmic lines that add a beautifully fluid and illustrative quality to her work.
Most recently, Shannon has been drawn to watery reflections and the expressive moments she captures of her subjects, the local wildlife.
She is represented by the Reflecting Spirit Gallery, in Ucluelet B.C. and has exhibited her work in the Okanagan, Ucluelet and Tofino. She holds a BFA and a B.Ed. and has been teaching art for over twenty years.
