After Round 7 marked the halfway point of the 1998 World Rally Championship season, the second half kicked off with one of the most challenging events of the calendar: the Acropolis Rally in Greece.
In 1997, Ford achieved a historic 1-2 finish at this rally, with team orders allowing Juha Kankkunen, who had joined the team just a round prior to replace Armin Schwartz, to let Carlos Sainz take the honors. This victory marked the first win for the Ford/M-Sport partnership, a collaboration that continues to this day.
As the teams prepared for the 1998 edition of the Acropolis Rally, all eyes were on Sainz, the four-time World Champion, to see if he could improve on that landmark victory and claim another triumph on one of the toughest rallies of the year.
As ever, Tiff Needell, Mark James, and Jeremy Hart provided insightful commentary and analysis, guiding viewers through the challenges and excitement of this legendary rally. With tough terrain and unpredictable conditions, the Acropolis Rally promised to be a thrilling test for all competitors.
