STORYLINE:
The son-in-law of Pakistan's disgraced nuclear scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan was arrested for allegedly beating up two British diplomats, police and a British High Commission spokesman said on Friday.
Saad Ali Khan, who appeared briefly before a magistrate in the Pakistani capital on Friday, was accused of assaulting the two diplomats in a residential area of the capital Islamabad, said a police official.
He refused to give any other details.
The identities and conditions of the two diplomats were unknown.
Simon Smart, a spokesman for the British High Commission in Islamabad, confirmed the incident, which occurred late on Sunday night.
Abdul Qadeer Khan, 69, the godfather of Pakistan's nuclear programme, has been living under house arrest since February 2004 after he confessed to spreading sensitive nuclear technology to Iran, Libya and North Korea without government authorisation.
Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf, however, pardoned Khan, long revered as a national hero for his key role in making his country a nuclear power, because of his previous services to the nation.
