Car companies like Tesla and Chevrolet have excited many consumers wishing to save money, energy and the environment.
Electric cars have been a point of focus for the past decade and both companies are catching up with Nissan, which is currently at the forefront of the market. The appetite of customers for this new technology will determine whether these are the cars of the future.

The Chevy Volt at a glance
The next-generation Chevrolet Volt combines stunning design and incredible efficiency, offering up to 85 electric kilometres on a single charge. The new battery pack delivers 20 percent more energy by volume, yet weighs 9.5 kg (21 lb.) less than the pack in the previous-generation Volt.6 Voted 2016 Green Car of the Year by Green Car Journal.
The Chevrolet Volt is powered by two electric motors that work in unison to help optimize efficiency and conserve electric charge while providing responsive power and torque.
With a fully charged lithium-ion battery, Volt is capable of driving up to 85 kilometres. The second-generation Volt battery is 9.5 kg (20 lb.) lighter and holds more energy than the first-generation version.
When the battery runs low on electric charge, Volt seamlessly engages its gas-powered generator to help keep you going.
New Tesla model 3 at a glance
The all-electric car will have a range of at least 215 miles (346 km), will be able to seat five people comfortably, include both front and rear trunks, and will be at least able to accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour (0 to 100 km/h) in less than six seconds.
During the unveiling ceremony, Tesla announced a price starting at US$35,000 before any applicable government incentives. However, with options, Tesla's CEO predicted that the average sales price will be closer to US$42,000.[2] The drag coefficient of the Model 3 is expected to be 0.21. This will be lower than the Tesla Model S drag coefficient of 0.24, which is the lowest of any current production car.
