At least 16 people died and 12 were injured after heavy rain and flooding lashed the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh in just 48 hours. 16 districts were affected across the state with Shahjahanpur the worst affected, where 6 people died. The Indian Air Force has deployed choppers from Gwalior Air Base to carry out the rescue operation in the state. So far 14 people have been rescued who were stranded in Lalitpur and Jhansi districts.
