The Costa Rican town of La Fortuna is famed for its volcanos. Nestled alongside the more famous Arenal volcano sits the now dormant Cerro Chato which last erupted 3,500 years.
At its peak, 1140 metres up, is a 500m wide green lagoon within the crater. The steep, treacherous route is illegal to climb but many adventurers attempt to ascend the peak every day.
