OO gauge Revolution Trains IWA timber carriers
I’ve made a couple of changes to these wagons as initially they were constantly de-railing on all curves even ones greater than 3rd radius. As well as the de-railing issues some of the couplings had a tendency to come loose from the NEM socket and pull apart during running which made wagons constantly separate and impossible to run around the layout.
The first thing I did was to replace the existing NEM tension lock couplings with Hunt Elite intermediate magnetic couplings to resolve the coupling issues, this cured the wagons from separating however some bogies were still de-railing on curves.
As recommended by a fellow modeller, I purchased some M3.5 washers to fit them between the bogies and the wagons to raise the clearance and to stop any fouling on the body sides, I also noticed that some of the factory fitted screws that hold the bogies in place were either too tight or too loose and potentially could have fallen out. Once the new M3.5 washer was in place I put a drop of glue in the threaded hole, replaced the bogie and screw, tightened the screw in place and then unscrewed it half a turn backwards so the bogie could freely move, the screw would stay in place with the drop of glue in the thread holding it thus preventing the screw to work loose or fall out over time.
These two modifications made running 100% better and I had no issues, subsequently i ended up filming this video without a single glitch straight after the modifications were completed.
The next stage will be weathering the wagons and adding some timber loads.
