The chain tensioner that comes with your bike motor kit is a raging piece of crap. I built this one a couple of years ago using an idler sprocket, some small diameter DOM tubing, bronze bushings and some 1/2" diameter steel rod. I've put about 400 miles on this setup. There is some fine tuning to get the correct spring tension. The diameter of the spring coil I am using now is 1/8". The spring in this slideshow has a diameter of about 1/16". It was not enough tension.
