On this day in 1989, Space Shuttle Atlantis launched on STS-34. The primary objective of STS-34 was the deployment of the Galileo surveyor probe, an unmanned spacecraft that later entered orbit of the Jovian system in 1995, sending back some of the best images and science data ever gathered from the neighborhood of our solar system's largest planet.
This video is taken from NASA's official broadcast coverage of STS-34's launch and has been heavily upscaled via AI protocol. It has been mated to a custom composite audio track, composed of recordings of the launches of STS-116, STS-117, STS-133, and STS-134, as well as of a test of a ROFI ignitor.
