Busia Compassionate Children's Home was founded in 2003 to provide a place to live for the rapidly growing number of orphans in the town of Busia, Kenya. World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU), the global trade and development organization for credit unions worldwide, became involved with the home through the organization's development program in Kenya aimed at mitigating the economic impact of HIV/AIDS through credit union modernization. WOCCU has made several contributions to facilities improvements that will create a healthier, more efficient environment for the orphans and the live-in volunteers and provides funding for educational scholarships for the residents of the home.
