We finally found them: BALUT and SIOMAI! Thanks to everyone’s suggestions. I know we are excited to try balut for the first time. We had been looking for balut during our daytime street food markets, but you told us that it is a night market treat. Balut is a fertilized duck egg that is boiled and eaten as a delicacy in some Southeast Asian countries, particularly in the Philippines, Cambodia, and Vietnam. It is typically served as a street food or snack and is considered a popular food item among locals. While balut may not appeal to everyone's taste buds due to its unique texture and flavor, it remains a popular and traditional food item in many Southeast Asian cultures.
Siomai is a Chinese dim sum dish that has become popular in many parts of the world. It typically consists of ground pork or shrimp and other ingredients such as water chestnuts, scallions, and mushrooms, wrapped in a thin dough wrapper and steamed. Siomai is often served with soy sauce and calamansi, a type of citrus fruit.

ABOUT US
We are the Bags Packed Family: Jonathan and Kelly with our three children. We sold our home in Alaska, USA, eight years ago, and headed overseas. We are teachers and found fantastic teaching positions in Chennai, India. Two years later, we moved to the United Arab Emirates. Three years after that, during the beginning of the pandemic, we made the move to our current teaching jobs in Indonesia. We love traveling and finding adventures as a family. We hope that our travels will inspire and provide our children with the confidence to meet new people, try new foods, and enjoy learning a new language. We hope our vlogs will inspire you to get out and travel, too!
