I, Elizabeth Woodville, the White Queen
I was born into a minor gentry family in about 1437. I was married to Sir John Grey, a Lancastrian loyalist, who was killed at the Second Battle of St Albans in 1461. I was left a widow with two young sons.
In 1464, I met the young Yorkist king, Edward IV. Edward was immediately smitten with me, and we were married in secret. My marriage to Edward was a controversial one, as I was not considered to be of a high enough social status to be queen.
However, Edward was determined to marry me, and he eventually won the approval of his court and the people of England. I was crowned queen in 1465, and Edward and I had ten children together.
I was a popular queen, and I was known for my beauty, intelligence, and kindness. I was also a staunch supporter of my husband and my family.
During the Wars of the Roses, Edward and I were frequently forced to flee into exile. However, we always managed to return to power, and I was eventually able to see my son, Edward V, crowned king.
However, Edward V's reign was short-lived. He and his younger brother, Richard of York, were imprisoned in the Tower of London by their uncle, Richard III. The two princes were never seen again, and it is believed that Richard III had them murdered.
I and my daughters were also imprisoned in the Tower of London. However, we were eventually released after Henry Tudor defeated Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485.
Henry Tudor married my daughter, Elizabeth of York, and became King Henry VII. I was finally able to retire to a peaceful life, and I died in 1492.
I, Elizabeth Woodville, the White Queen, was a remarkable woman who lived through a turbulent time in English history. I was a loving wife and mother, and I was a strong and courageous woman. I am remembered as one of the most popular and influential queens of England.
I am proud of my life and my accomplishments. I survived the Wars of the Roses and saw my children crowned king and queen. I was a loyal wife and mother, and I was always there for my family. I was also a popular queen who was loved by the people of England.
I hope that my legacy will be one of peace, love, and strength. I want to be remembered as a woman who stood up for what she believed in and who fought for what was right. I also want to be remembered as a woman who loved her family and her country.
