After our 4 day trek from Mestia to Ushguli, we hired a private taxi to drive us from Ushguli to Mestia. The road was definitely sketchy at times as it's still being constructed so make sure you get a 4x4 vehicle and experienced driver! We paid 150 GEL for this --- we had just finished the trek and honestly were in no moods to even try to negotiate.
You can also get back at a much cheaper price in a shared van or minibus. We just didn't want to wait for them to fill up.
On September 29,2021, there was a landslide on this road. Doesn't surprise me one bit --- this part was the sketchiest!
