Some youths from the three oil producing communities in Edo State have staged a peaceful protest to the Benin head office of the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC over lack of basic necessary amenities in their areas.
The protest drew the attention of management and staff of NDDC.
The youths from Ovia North East, Orhionmwon and Ikpoba Okay Local Government Areas called on the Niger Delta Development Commission to do the needful in their communities as they have been neglected for some time now.
They attributed that whatever that belong to oil producing communities in Edo State should be given to them such as good roads, electricity supply, contracts, health care Centers and that the youths should be engaged to enable them shun all forms of social vices.
They also alleged that some of the leaders in the communities have been scoping what belongs to the indigenes under the guise that they are executing projects with nothing to show instead using it for their personal interest against the people's will and called on the federal government to set up a committee to look into the issues.
Commenting on behalf of management of the Benin office of NDDC the assistant director A $ T Pastor Olumide Epebiu while commending the protesters for the peaceful manner they conducted the protest promised to take their agitations to the management in order to address the issues raised.
The protesters threatened to continue with the protest if the matter is not being addressed by the federal government.
