A Synodal Way session of the Catholic Church in Germany came to an abrupt end on Saturday following votes in favor of a text endorsing same-sex blessings and a discussion of whether the priesthood is necessary. The assembly has been extended to 2023. Rudolf Gehrig, Chief Correspondent for CNA Deutsch, joins to catch us up to speed on what the Synodal Way is and what this latest delay means. Gehrig was reporting from the session when it suddenly shut down, he shares what happened. The CNA Deutsch Chief Correspondent explains what the commission said regarding the controversial vote on same-sex blessings and the need to have priests. A few days ago, a group of conservative German lay people published a manifesto expressing concern about the direction of the Synodal Way. Gehrig tells us what this says about the state of the Church in Germany and what the response has been from Church leadership.
