The Chinese merganser is an ancient species that can trace its ancestry back to the Late Paleozoic Ice Age. They have been living on Earth for over 10 million years. The name is derived from the fact that their crest of elongated feathers resembles the feather on the official headwear of the Qing Dynasty (1636-1912). They are now under first-grade national protection in China and are often dubbed the 'panda of birds'. #AnimalAdventure
