In our passage this week, as Jesus continues to deal with the disciples’ self-centeredness, Jesus confronts their prideful ambition and worldly view of greatness, teaching them that true greatness is rooted in humility and dependence on Him. Using a child as an example, He illustrates that all in God’s kingdom, even the least, are equally valued and great because of their relationship to Christ, not their role, prominence, or personal merit. Our call is to receive one another with humility, recognizing the inherent value that comes from belonging to Christ. This requires setting aside pride, status-seeking, and selfish ambition while embracing a heart of service that honors others as if honoring Christ Himself. In the end, true greatness in God’s kingdom is found in those who die to self and live wholly for Him.
