Trailer for UTOPIE/UTOPIA. The video art work is no. 1 of 4 short films created in 2020-21 in collaboration with acclaimed actor Bill Sage, and sound managements by JG Thirlwell, during the pandemic. Each chapter is a performative reading monologue of texts from French philosopher Roland Barthes lecture series How To Live Together, published in 1977 on idiorrythmic living formats in light of societal ethics and value systems. The collaborative film series was a method of responding to the human experience and the ethics of citizenry in states of isolation, disenfranchisement and societal upheaval experienced globally starting in 2020, an era of crisis.
Screenings: Utopie/Utopia was first created for Senstad's solo exhibition How We Live Together at Yi Gallery in New York, July - Sept 2020 and in the group exhibition Art's New Natures - Digital Dynamics in Nordic Art on Streamingmuseum.org Aug - Nov 2020. It has been screened at the Film-makers Cooperative in NY, 2022, the inaugural High Desert Art Fair in Joshua Tree, CA, February, 2024. The film series is represented by Film-makers Cooperative, NY, and Artist Rights Society, New York. The short-film is included in the library of Video Art Archive Norway, managed by the National Museum of Norway.
Bill Sage has appeared in over 120 films. TV and stage productions. Films include American Psycho, Orange is the New Black, Hap & Leonard, Precious, The Insider, Boardwalk Empire and numerous Hal Hartley films who is a long time collaborator of Sage.
