This was a relatively short but eventful and very wet day. Its a short walk from the hotel at Val Ferret to the beginning of the climb up the notorious Grand Col Ferret. We noticed hikers getting out of buses to join the TMB here. The weather worsened as we passed Refugio Elena and ascended towards the Col. We saw many under-prepared hikers turn around and head back down as sleet and high winds buffeted the hikers. We continued up and over the Col which marks the border with Switzerland. The rain continued on the downhill Swiss side for most of the rest of the day. We arrived at Hotel Edelweiss in the charming town of La Fouly by early afternoon. The walk through the town was so interesting. We caught up with some of our hiking friends in the hotel bar for a warm, dry evening of food, wine and entertainment.
