The answer is no. According to the UK NHS guidelines published in 2016 says that there is clear scientific evidence that alcohol should be avoided throughout pregnancy. It is safest to avoid alcohol in the first trimester. There are risks to the fetus. Risks like growth restriction. Especially the first trimester miscarriage, there can be small for gestational age, there can be preterm labour, low birth weight, all these complications can occur in pregnancy and if a woman resorts to drinking in the first 3 months of pregnancy, she can land up with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. In Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, patient can end up with facial abnormalities, growth restriction an learning and behavioral problems which can be long lasting and which can be lifelong.so it is better to avoid alcohol throughout pregnancy for a woman, especially in the first 3 months of pregnancy. If she had consumed alcohol without knowing that she is pregnant, safest thing is to avoid or to stop it, not to worry if it has been light drinking and if she has been in to heavy drinking or she has any problem with drinking, she has to consult an obstetrician and seek her guidance and management for the pregnancy.
