West Bengal was an industrial power house during British Regime but during 1960 the glory of business fell behind. After nineties, during post-liberalisation, Bengal’s economy losing out to Hyderabad or Bangalore.
Over time after independence its per capita income declined. Partition and resultant refugee influx, dependence on industries like jute, mining and tea, less business mind-sets, poor environment for start-ups cause the setback.
