On June 28th 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife Sophie were assassinated in Sarajevo Bosnia, an event that directly triggered the First World War.
The seven assassins responsible had the motivation of wrestling Bosnia away from Austro-Hungarian control, in the hopes of creating a Yugoslav state. But what happened to them after war began?
From executions to unlikely escapes and positions of power in the Yugoslav government, we look at what happened to each of the assassins who played their part in dragging the powers of Europe into the Great War.
