Actually, “Best of Both Worlds” intro consists of 3 major parts. Firstly, Eddie Van Halen’s strum pattern guitar intro. Secondly, Eddie’s pick pattern guitar intro accompanied by Alex Van Halen’s simple 4/4 drum beat. Thirdly, Eddie’s strum pattern guitar intro again accompanied by Alex and Mike Anthony. However, it’s the 3rd part that I’m interested in. Why? Because it’s the part to which Sammy Hagar, Eddie and Mike humorously did some kind of—I guess—walking motion when playing it on 5150 Tour. And it had been iconic since then. Anyway, during Van Halen 2nd Formation’s 2004 Reunion Tour held at Kemper Arena, Kansas, Missouri, on July 26th, when Eddie, Mike and Alex were together playing the 3rd part of “Best of Both Worlds” intro, Sammy did the walking motion. Seeing Sammy doing it, Mike joined him. Where’s Eddie? Why he didn’t follow Sammy and Mike? Well, I guess there wasn’t “It’s 5150 time!” anymore.
