In this workshop, we will introduce the fundamentals of statistics and emphasise its necessity for data analysis.
First, we will delve into univariate and bivariate descriptive statistics for a selected social phenomenon in the EU, exploring measures of central tendency, variability, shape distribution, covariance, and correlation. We will also cover various exploratory plots, including histograms, scatter plots, and boxplots.
In the second part of the workshop, we will introduce the concept of probability. We will explain different event types (i.e., the set of outcomes of an experiment) and probability calculations and explore more advanced topics like conditional probability and the Bayes Theorem. Throughout the use case, we will use tools currently offered in BTDI to implement the statistical measures.
All the tools used during these workshops are free to EU public administrations to experiment with data.
