The European Union is facing a severe energy crisis in 2025. Several events are making the situation worse. These include the disruption of Norwegian gas supplies, the end of Russian gas transit through Ukraine, and the threat of Qatar stopping its liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports to the region. These developments come at a time when Europe is already struggling with the challenges of switching to renewable energy and reducing its reliance on fossil fuels. Norway, the EU’s biggest supplier of natural gas, is at the center of the crisis because of a technical failure at its Hammerfest LNG plant.
