ExpressVPN is one of the most popular VPNs in the industry. Recently, it was purchased by Kape Technologies, which has a dubious past. The same company owns Private Internet Access, CyberGhost, and ZenMate VPNs. A report was released about the company's Chief Information Officer Daniel Gericke, who was one of the members of Project Raven, which is behind building cyber-espionage tools helping UAE target human rights activists, journalists, and rival governments. With all this in mind, is ExpressVPN worth it in 2021? I’ve tested it personally and I’ll share my honest, not sponsored opinion. Noteworthy features of ExpressVPN:

ExpressVPN gets a huge plus from me for having a great router app. It simplifies the process of using VPN with your router immensely, compared to the manual configuration. I liked the split tunneling feature and MediaStreamer as well. I was able to unblock Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Hulu and Disney+. You might get some issues with some of the servers but let’s not give up here - all you need to do is switch to a different one.

And seeing how this April, ExpressVPN has received ioXt certification for security for their Android app, they are going the right direction with this one. Furthermore, ExpressVPN uses RAM-only servers that are unable to hold data for long and has an in-house bug bounty program.

There aren’t many VPNs that can rival ExpressVPN, but in some cases it loses the competition, in my opinion. If we take a look at ExpressVPN vs Surfshark or PIA, VyprVPN, IPVanish, it loses hard in terms of price, and for ExpressVPN vs NordVPN, it didn’t bring enough extra features or performance to make a difference.
