The West Coast (WCR) Class 47 No. 47760 is being used to clear the snow drifts on the Esk Valley line, which had got to two feet in places today.

The usual Class 156 units were replaced by the Class 142 Pacer. Due to delays the 12:41 service from Whitby was cancelled and the Class 47 ran to Battersby from Whitby to meet the 142 unit which departed Middlesbrough at 14:16.
