On August 4, 1972, Uganda's President Idi Amin announced a drastic move that would shake the nation and the world. During a visit to Tororo in eastern Uganda, Amin declared that he’d received a vision commanding him to expel the Asian community, predominantly Indian, from Uganda within 90 days. He accused them of exploiting the country's economy and gave an ultimatum: 70,000 Asians would have to choose between renouncing their British citizenship or leaving Uganda altogether.
