Oksana Lutsyshyna reads from Persephone Blues and Ivan and Phoebe
In conversation with Oleh Kotsyuba, HURI Manager of Publications
Oksana Lutsyshyna reads from two of her recent books: Persephone Blues, a collection of poetry in the English translation (Boston: Arrowsmith, 2019), and Ivan and Phoebe, Ukrainian-language novel (Lviv: Old Lion Publishers, 2019). 2020 marks the 30th anniversary of the Revolution on the Granite and Ivan and Phoebe is inspired by this revolutionary event in 1990 that shaped the form of peaceful protest that further revolutions in Ukraine took. A conversation with Oleh Kotsyuba, HURI’s manager of publications, and a Q&A will follow.
Oksana Lutsyshyna is a Ukrainian writer and poet, author of three novels, and collection of short stories, and five books of poetry, the latest of them published in the English translation in 2019 (Persephone Blues, Arrowsmith). Her fiction and poetry has won a number of awards in Ukraine. She holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of Georgia, and is currently a lecturer in Ukrainian Studies at the University of Texas at Austin, where she teaches the Ukrainian language and various Eastern European literatures in translation. Her dissertation focused on the Polish writer Bruno Schulz. She translates Ukrainian poetry into English in collaboration with a New York-based poet and writer Olena Jennings.
