The purpose of this session is to provide a basis of evidence for what is known about the transmission of COVID-19 and how it relates to buildings and Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems. This is a continuation from the PHO Rounds: Indoor Air Quality and COVID-19 session delivered in March 2021 and the first part of this session provides an update on changes in the evidence basis for HVAC and related mitigation measures. Approaches and challenges with air monitoring will also be discussed in detail. The second part of this session focuses on case studies regarding different spaces with specific approaches for transmission risk reduction.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the evidence basis for the use of building systems to reduce COVID-19 transmission risk
2. Compare the use of CO2 and other air monitoring approaches to make informed decisions
3. Identify elements of an approach for using HVAC and building measures to reduce transmission risk in specific spaces.
