The Laguleesar Cave Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is located in Arittapatti, near Melur, in the Madurai District of Tamil Nadu. Kalinjamalai and Thiruppinaiyanmalai are other names for Arittapatti. The Architectural Survey of India today protects this rock-cut Siva temple, although it is still used for worship by the locals and is known as Idaichchi Mandapam. This temple is situated on the outskirts of Arittapatti. The Siva temple is an excellent example of Pandya rock- cut temple architecture. On either side of the sanctuary door are rectangular wall niches. Dvarapalas sculptures are encircled by Brahmakanta pilasters in these wall niches. These Dvarapalas could be an afterthought.
