In today's unemployment stimulus update, we have another new stimulus proposal. Nothing has passed, nothing has been voted on and we haven't even seen drafts as to how the language in these stimulus bills will read. The latest proposal is for $916 billion and is proposed by Steve Mnuchin. This is not simply added funding for the $908 billion dollar bipartisan stimulus bill, it is an entirely separate stimulus bill. It includes a one time $600 stimulus check to the same group that received stimulus checks the last time but it is not on top of/in addition to a weekly $300 unemployment weekly boost, according to the below article published by Bloomberg, it is instead of the weekly $300 weekly unemployment boost. So his plan does not include any retroactive unemployment boost! Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer have already called his stimulus proposal "unacceptable". On Wednesday December 9th, Congress will vote on a stop gap to push CR (continued resolutions) back another week giving them another week through December 18th to continue negotiations on stimulus and CR. The good news is that every proposal we have seen does seem to favor a PUA unemployment extension and extending PEUC so it is unlikely that those programs will end in December. At any rate, I'm not holding my breath that we will find out anytime soon what's actually going to happen in regards to more stimulus.
