The new Penang Ferry service, which replaced the iconic old ferries, offers a modern and efficient transportation option between the mainland and the island. The new ferries, introduced as part of Penang Port Commission’s efforts to upgrade the transportation infrastructure, are designed to provide a more comfortable and faster ride.
Passengers board the ferry at Pengkalan Sultan Abdul Halim (PSAH) in Butterworth on the mainland, connected to Penang Sentral Bus Terminal transportation hub and Butterworth Railway Station. The ferry terminal has been upgraded with modern facilities, making the boarding process smooth and efficient with the Touch 'n Go Card. The PSAH terminal offers waiting areas, snack stalls, free WiFi, charging points, and toilets for passengers.
Passengers can enjoy the air-conditioned cabins on board the ferry or opt for outdoor seating to take in the scenic views of the Penang Strait. The ferry ride offers picturesque views of the Penang Bridge, the island’s skyline, and the surrounding waters. A one-way trip typically takes around 10 minutes, depending on sea conditions and ferry schedules.
Upon arrival at Pengkalan Raja Tun Uda (PRTU) in George Town, passengers disembark. The ferry terminal is centrally located, and connected to the Rapid Penang Jetty Bus Terminal, providing easy access to the historic and commercial areas of Penang Island, especially with the free Rapid Penang Central Area Transit (CAT) Bus Service.
