FRANKLIN, N.C. -- Having a heart procedure can be scary, and getting back into life afterward often comes with apprehension and questions.
One local doctor makes time to be there at a critical place.
A person that's already had a heart attack is at the highest risk for another heart attack, which is why family physician Kit Helm volunteers so much time with patients at Cardiac Rehab at Angel Medical Center in Franklin.
"This is a population of people where they've been through the heart attack or the stent. There's a lot of fear," Dr. Helm explains.
Heart patient Jim Hedden says there is a lot to learn about the heart.
"When you come out, there's so many things you don't understand about your body," Hedden said. "Like for instance, when can I do this or what can I do? And, it's frustrating."
Doing what your body will let you do is difficult, but it is a lot easier with a physician on hand as a consultant, cheerleader and friend.
Helm is almost always at Cardiac Rehab on Fridays, and says his main mission is to answer questions to alleviate patients' fears.
